Banff Mountain Film Festival comes to Laramie

                            "Crossing the Ice"

The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour will stop in Laramie Wednesday and Thursday at 7 p.m. The high profile festival, which has visited the University of Wyoming since 1999, focuses on mountain sports and culture while also looking at related topics like global warming. Films range in length as well and each tour date, and even screening night, are specially selected from all of the films to fit the interests of each stop.

The center piece of the festival is "Crossing the Ice" which won the grand prize and people's choice awards at the festival's opening.

Filmed in Antarctica, "Crossing the Ice" follows James Castrission and Justin Jones as they travel to and from the South Pole completely unassisted while dragging their food, supplies and shelter.
The story of this short film gets really interesting as the pair discover they are not alone on the ice - another experienced adventurer is racing for the same goal.

Seeing as I have a hard time getting up the stairs to my apartment most days, the film sounds mighty impressive. Check out the clip:

Both screening nights are completly free and open to the public. There will even be giveaways from the festival organizers and local sponsors. Deffinitly worth the drive if the weather holds out.
